Hat Trick 2007
This is our Cape Blend, which means that it must have at least 30% Pinotage in the blend to be able to qualify as a Cape Blend. Our's has got 50% Pinotage in and we were the first to add Grenache to the blend, we also added Merlot and we have just won the Perold Trophy in South Africa for the best Cape Blend and Tiaan my son has with it won a tour for 14 days to another wine country! In 2009 our 2006 Hat Trick won the prize at the Decanter World Wine Awards as the best South African red wine.

Previous vintage – Best Red Blend out of RSA at Decanter World Wine Awards
This classically styled Cape Blend of 50% Pinotage, 35% Syrah and 15% Merlot. A classy combination of old world charm and new world exuberance, the nose is opulent with aromas of cherry, raspberry, lavender and violet. The pallet is concentrated with a mineral core and polished tannins, showing succulent flavours of cassis, citrus infused dark chocolate, cinnamon and liquorice.
An average yield of 7-8tons/ha was harvested in the early morning, while temperatures were still low. The grapes were then gently destemmed and crushed.
Fermentation temperatures were moderate to promote elegance and temper harsh tannin extraction. Once pressed, the wine was racked to barrel, where it under went malo-lactic fermentation. Only second, third and fourth-fill barrels were used to enhance the wine’s natural finesse.
After 18 months in oak the wine was blended and given a light albumen (egg white) fining to round-off any unwanted tannins. Before bottling the wine was delicately filtered.
